The Maldives have prohibited the headlines of Israeli passports to sad

President Mohamed Muizzu signed the measure after Parliament focused on Tuesday. According to the president’s office, the decision reflects the sentence of the Nation of the Indian Ocean of what he describes as the “continuous atrocities” of Israel against the Palestinian people.

The amended immigration law blocks the entrance for the headlines of Israeli passports, thought that dual citizens can still visit using non -Israeli documents.

This movement follows a 2024 cabinet proposal and occurs in the midst of the growing domestic pressure for a stronger posture about the conflict.

In 2023, more than 11,000 Israelis visited the Maldives, but arrivals fell sharply in early 2024.

Since then, the Ministry of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel has advised citizens, regardless of secondary nationality, to avoid traveling to the Maldives and achieved that Israelis in the country consider leaving due to limited consular support.

Muizzu also announced plans to appoint a special envoy of evaluative humanitarian needs in the Palestinian territories and launch a national fundraising campaign under the banner “damn in solidarity with Palestine.”

The Maldives, whose population of 530,000 is more than 98% Muslim, previously lifted the prohibition of Israeli tourists in the 1990s and briefly explored the normalization of relations in 2010, thought that diplomatic efforts stagnated in 2012.

Since the adoption of the 2008 Constitution, citizens and anyone who wishes to become citizens is obliged by law to follow Sunni Islam nominally.
