Victims of upstate New York plane crash ID’d as 2022 NCAA woman of the year and family members

A private plane that crashed in the north of the state of New York on the weekend was to take a very close family from doctors and distinguish recent athletes students, destined for a trip to the Catskills for a birthday celebration and Easter holidays.

Mitsubishi Mu-2b of double motor fell shortly after noon on Saturday in a muddy field in Copake, New York, near the Massachusetts line, killing the six people on board, according to the authorities and a family member who spoke Pers.

Among the victims were Karenna Groff, a former MIT soccer player appointed the woman of the year of the NCAA 2022; his father, neuroscientist, Dr. Michael Groff; His mother, Dr. Joy Saini, a Uroginecologist and boyfriend of Karna Groff, James Santoro, another newly graduated from MIT, according to James’s father, John Santoro.

“They were a wonderful family,” Santoro told AP. “The world lost many very good people who were going to do a lot of good for the world if they had the opportunity. We are all personally devastated.”

Santoro said his son first with Groff as a first -year student studied at MIT. Groff, who grew up in Weston, Massachusetts, was an American football player studied biomedical engineering. Santoro, a New Jersey mathematics student, played Lacrosse for school.

“Actually, this recognition is a will of my MIT Women’s Soccer Family and the whole guide, support and friendship that have provided me over the years,” he said in an interview at that time.

After graduating, Santoro and Groff moved to Manhattan, where Groff enrolled in the School of Medicine at the University of New York and Santoro worked as an investment associate for Silver Point, a coverage fund with headquarters in Greenwich, Connecticut.

On Saturday morning, they traveled to an airport in White Plains, a suburb of New York City, where they boarded Michael Groff’s private plane, according to John Santoro.

They were prepared to land at the Columbia County Airport, but approximately 20 miles crashed to the south.

“It is in the middle of a field and is quite muddy, so accessibility is difficult,” said Columbia County Sheriff Jacqueline Salvatore, at a press conference on Saturday.

The National Transport Security Board has begun an investigation and is expected to provide an update on Sunday night. The funeral arrangements were underway, said Santoro.

“The 25 years we had with James were the best year of our lives,” he added, “and the joy and love he brought us will be enough to last a lifetime.”
