West Sacramento, California – Luis Severino was willing to give the METs a significant discount to retain him last winter, but that was not enough to keep him in Queens.

According to Severino, his agent told the METS that he was willing to remain in a two -year contract for a value of $ 40 million.

“I was trying to keep the Mets,” Severino said. “Realé asked less money to stay there. But I wasn’t in his plans. At first, he surprised me, but in the end, it was a business and they had to take care of other things.”

Severin’s memory is that the METS told his agent that he would have to be willing to accept the two -year contract worth $ 34 million that Frankie Monta received from the club.

“For me, I think it was not fair,” said Severino, who rejected a qualification sacrifice of the METS worth $ 21.05 million for this season after launching an effectiveness of 3.91 in 31 openings for the team last year.

Severino, 31, cited the fact that he remained healthy last season, after spending much of his Yankees mandate on the Kured list, as a reason why he wanted to keep the METs.

“I know it was going to be less money, but only the environment there, the coaches were incredible,” Severino said. “Everything was fine, so I was trying to sacrifice more to stay in a place where I know I can improve.”

Severino spent time in the field on Friday with his former teammates.

Francisco Álvarez continued his rehabilitation with St. Lucie, and Syracuse is expected to move on Tuesday to continue his rehabilitation.

Álvarez is rehabilitating surgery to eliminate a broken hamate bone from his left hand.
