“That [Hochul] He is struggling to change some of the ridiculous pro-criminal reforms that legislats crossed and Cuomo signed the law when he was governor, ”Pataki told John Catsimatidis.

Hochul is trying to make the law of discovery more fair “so that prosecutors can hold violent criminals and she is not a budget,” Pataki said.

“She is telling the legislators:” Or pass this intact change or I will not sign the budget. “This is exactly what you should be doing,” said the former governor.

He said it is easy to approve a budget if the governor closes legislators and gives them everything that they want expenses and laws.

“But if you have the courage to stand up and take heat, then you can make the changes that New York needs, at this time in this budget fight, Governor Hochul is doing that and applauds it for it,” Pataki said.

Currently, Republicans in the Legislature are on the corner of Hochul in two of their priorities: adjust the discovery law and expand the authority to force seriously ill people to treatment. Resistance comes from other Democrats.

The state budget was due on April 1

Hochul is negotiating the details of the 2025-2026 Financial Plan with the leader of the majority of the Senate, Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D-Yonkers) and the speaker of the Carl Heastie Assembly (D-Bronx), who supported the current discovery law prior to the trial.
