Lucy Olsen could be the last second round selection to meet a wnba list of the opening day. Olsen, who spent the first three years of his university career in Villanova before transferring Owa’s ring for his senior season, was selected by Washington Mystics with the general selection 23 in the WNBA Draft of 2025.
And, earlier this week at the training camp, the chief coach of Mystics, Sydney Johnson, said he was impressed by Olsen’s work, by Tyler Byrum by Monumental Sports Network.
“Lucy, that average range, I don’t know man,” said Johnson. “You can somehow reach that thing.”
Why have young players stand out in the Mystics training camp?
Sydney Johnson’s first response was Lucy Olsen.

“She does not surprise you with her athletics, but when she reaches that middle range, no matter what is happening, she arrives.”
Olsen averaged 17.9 points per game in Iowa, shooting 43.6% from the field and 36% of three. The Native 5’10 of Pennsylvania obtained honors of the first All-Big Ten team. Now, she is one of the doors or players who compete for a place in the final list in Washington.
The Mystics training camps currently includes 17 players
Of these, 12 players can make the final list, he thought that WNBA teams often only have 11 for cost savings. That means that six players are likely to be cut.
As is currently, 3 players have fully guaranteed contracts.
- Shakira Austin (protected rookie contract)
- Brittney Sykes (protected veteran contract)
- Stef Dolsson (protected veteran contract)
In addition, the 7 players seem very likely to make the final list.
- Sug Sutton (return in a training camp agreement)
- Emily Engslter (return in a training camp agreement)
- Sonia Citron, who was recruited No. 3 in general in 2025
- Jade Melbourne (Returizer in unprotected treatment)
-
Aaliyah Edwards, who was recruited No. 6 in general in 2024
- Kiki Iriafen, who was recruited No. 4 in general in 2025
- Sika Kone (Returizer in unprotected treatment)
Austin, Sutton, Sykes, Melbourne, Edwards and Dolsson are all returnrs, while Iriafen and Citron were the first round of mystics. It is unlikely that the Mystics cut one of their best Draft team or a player who returned last season.
In addition, Georgia Amore seems to be part of the team’s future, but this season will be lost due to an injury. With amoore made during the year, the mystics need additional guards and Olsen can complete as creator of games and ball handling.
Together with Olsen, 5 players seem to be fighting for the places in the mystical list
Those players are:
- Jojo Lacey, an outstanding rutgers striker
- Ashten Prechtel, who was a third round selection selected by the Connecticut Sun in 2023
- Khadijiah Cave, a 30 -year -old forward who has long competed for the places on the WNBA list
- Zaay Green, a 6’2 guard out of Alabama that was selected no. 32 In general in 2025
- Morgan Jones, a non -recruited guard from Louisville
