Rookie WNBA star suffers season-ending injury

The Washington Mystics sent a press release on Wednesday that the Novata Guard Georgia Amore has suffered a torn acl and the season will be lost. Washington selected Amore No. 6 in general in the 2025 WNBA draft after the Australian guard played five university seasons in Virginia Tech and Kentucky.

Amore’s injury occurred on the third day of the practice of the Mystics training field. This occurs after Amoore played his university season from November to March, with only a few weeks of rest between that and she was recruited in the WNBA.

This is not the first devastating ACL injury in 2025. Juju Watkins of USC broke their ACL in the second round of the NCAA tournament, and the storm players Nika Muhl and Jordan button suffered this injury while playing abroad.

It is already proven that female athletes are more susceptible to the tears of the ligament, contributing to this crisis of tears of LCA in the WNBA. Women have three to six times more likely to break their ACL, published by investigations at the British Journal of Sports Medicine.

Since the expected recovery timeline of this injury is 10-12 months, Amoore now loses what was expected to be his rookie season in the WNBA.

This week it was announced that FIFA will finance a new study on the links between LCA lesions and menstrual cycles as well. It will be a joint study of one year to monitor estrogen levels and progesterone while referring to the performance data of these lesions.

The mystics included in their statement that will be updated on the condition of Amore when necessary.
