Rafael Devers announced his feelings on Thursday. On Friday, it was the turn of the Red Sox of Boston, John Henry, to share his opinions with the discontent Slugger.
A day after Devers told journalists about his refusal to play the first base, Henry, the president of the team, Sam Kennedy, and the Baseball Director Craldow flew to Kansas City to meet with Devers and the manager Alex Cora.
Boston has an opening in the first base after Triston Casas broke the left knee tendon and had seasonal loan surgery. The Red Sox Management approached Devers, who moved from the third base to the batter designated this spring, on the complement to the beginning, and devers decreased.
After homework and led two races in Thursday’s 5-0 victory over Texas, Devers told reporters: “They come to me and spoke to me about it. I know a ball player, but at the same time, they can’t expect each position to play.”
“In spring training, they talked to me and basically to put on my glove. I was going to play another position other than DH. At this time, I don’t think it’s an appropriate decision to play to play.”
Devers is in the second year of a 10 -year contract and $ 313.5 million. It was Boston’s third regular base before the Red Sox signed Alex Bregman, considered a defensive update, in the low season.
Devers was reluctant to give up the third, but he did not have a choice.
“John spoke directly with Raffy,” Breslow said before Friday’s game against the reais. “(He) felt that it was important, according to the situation that took place yesterday (that included) an honest conversation about what we valued an organization, and that means being great teammates for each mind.”
Breslow would not give details about the conversation, but said: “John had a productive conversation, and that is where we are at this time.”
Devers started on DH on Friday.
“(Where he plays) is a son of high school, I think, for the other conversations,” said Breslow, who spent 12 years as a pitcher in the major, including five with the red socks. “That decision would never be taken in a sofa in an office in Kansas City.”
Cora said it would be a continuous discussion.
“Obviously, have everyone here and in the same place,” said the manager. “It means a lot, not only for us that we are on the floor, but also for players and for Raffy. So I thought it was good.”
When asked if Devers would begin to take land at the beginning, Cora responded to Téntely.
“No, that’s not the plan right now,” he said. “The plan is to continue having conversations.”
The question now is whether these conversations will lead to a solution that the Devers can adopt.
