When the New England Patriots field marshal, Drake Maye, was playing video games in high school, Stefon Diggs was one of his favorite goals.
Soon, the hope of the Patriots – Maye will launch passes to Diggs in real life.
“It was one of those guys growing: when I was in high school, I was young in the league,” Maye said Thursday in his first availability since the Patriots signed Diggs as a free agent. “I had it in my fantasy team and things like that, playing with him in Madden.
“It will be great to launch a receiver who has made plays as he has done. It is my job to give him a chance and go find him.”
After a year of rookie in which the Patriots, only four games, only two of them with him as a field marshal, Maye is looking at his second season with an improved receiving group and an offensive line.
The Patriots chose WR Kyle Williams of the state of Washington in the third round of the draft last week, a month after signing Diggs for three years and $ 63 million.
Maye’s main receiver last year was the closed wing Hunter Henry, who had 66 trapped for 674 yards and two touchdowns. Diggs is a four -time Bowl selection that had six consecutive seasons of 1,000 yards before carrying its correct ACL last October.
Diggs has said that it is ahead of those scheduled to return, and Maye awaits it.
“He is going very well,” Maye said. “Hey [has] Present state. It will be great to launch a receiver who has made plays like him. He has made great plays in playoff games and played in many different schemes, played with high -level field marshal. “
The Patriots also reinforced the backfield with the RB of Ohio State Treveyon Henderson in the second round to go with Rhamondre Stevenson. But the greatest impulse can be the fourth general selection of Campbell to protect Maye’s blind side.
Campbell, who played 37 or his 38 games in LSU in the left Tackle, allowed only two captures in the last two seasons.
Maye said it was “pumped” that the team chose Campbell, also more when he heard the new patriot say on the night of the Draft: “I’m going to fight and die to protect everything I have.”
“Man, it starts you, you put your juices. You want to go out and play football now,” Maye said. “We have a lot to meet him when he entered and flew on Friday. He pumped so that things work, and obviously, it looks like a soccer player. That is what you want here.”
Associated Press reports.
