The thesis moments will surely evoke memories, some that will make you smile, some who could make you laugh, also some that you could shy. But all memorable.

Go back daily for the next most memorable moment. Today in our list is number 16.

No. 25: Jim Clark’s victory in 1965

The Indianapolis 500 of 1965 will go down in history for a couple of reasons. Jim Clark’s victory in a Ford lotus scored the first time a rear motor car won the race. That was a surprise in the sense that 27 of the 33 cars in the event were rear engine cars, since the equipment and drivers could match the power and balance of the cars to make them faster than the red motors Roadsters.

Clark, thanks to Ford, also Nascar’s wooden brothers had fame facing their car. They never had to change the tires, but they had to feed it twice, and their fuel methods were much faster than their competitors.

No. 24: Newgarden passes Ericsson for 2023 victory

The 2023 Indianapolis 500 will become one of the most controversial finishes. Instead of letting the race end under caution when a late race accident would generally have turned out that the race never restarts, the series officials opted for the red flag of the race, the third red flag in the last 15 laps.

Marcus Ericsson led at that time, but was seen as a duck sitting for the race of a lap until the end. And he was like Josef Newgarden made the pass in the setback of the last round for his first in what would be the consecutive victories of Indy 500.

No. 23: The milk tradition was born in 1936

Louis Meyer won his third Indianapolis 500 in 1936, and was the beginning of a couple of traditions. The first was something involuntary. Someone gave him a bottle of whey to drink after the race. That began the famous tradition of drinking milk in victory.

The other was that it was the first race for the Borg-Warner trophy, which is still the trophy given to the winner of Indianapolis 500.

No. 22: The Unser becomes the oldest winner

The Unser did not have a trip for the Indianapolis 500 of 1987. But when Danny Unais suffered a brain shock in a shipwreck, Roger Penske needed a driver. Then he called Unser. Hey, I also needed a car. Penske found a one -year car that the team had on display in a hotel in Pennsylvania near her store.

Unser was no stranger to winning in Indianapolis, since he had three victories in his career. He made him a fourth historical victory in 1987, already 47 years, 360 days, he is still the oldest pilot to win the Indy 500.

No. 21: Scott Goodyear passes car rhythm

The memorable moments come in all forms, including disappointment. The disappointment and shock was what Scott Goodyear felt in 1995. He had led 42 laps and seemed to have the strongest car at the end of the race. But in a restart with 10 laps when stirring, Goodyear passed the slum functioning car before the rhythm car arrived at Pit Road. Goodyear remained on the track despite being with black flag.

Jacques Villeneuve won the race. Goodyear was accredited with 14th, five laps down.

No. 20: Victoria de Mario Andretti in 1969

Mario Andretti, considered one of the best racing drivers in the world, won his only victory in Indianapolis 500 in 1969. He led 116 of the 200 laps and won by a margin of 113 seconds about Dan Gurney.

Andretti became the first pilot to win the Daytona 500 (1967) and Indianapolis 500. Aj Foyt would join him on that list when Foyt won in Daytona in 1972.

No. 19: F1 champions in the Care Center

The Indianapolis 500 has always attracted some of the most successful pilots in the world, and that was certainly the case in 1993. With the champion of Formula 1 of 1992, Nigel Mansell, making his debut, led 34 laps.

Two other F1 champions that had become Indy Staples, Mario Andretti (F1 champion of 1978) and Emerson Fittipaldi (1972, 1974), spent a lot of time in front. Andretti led 72 turns. Fittipaldi led 16 laps, including the most important, since he captured his second victory of Indy 500.

Subsequently, Fittipaldi made a controversial decision, renouncing traditional milk in the circle of victory for orange juice of its forests. Later he took a sip of milk and emitted an apology for the initial, not to follow the tradition.

No. 18: Scott Dixon’s terrifying clash

Scott Dixon moved away from a terrifying clash on Tour 53 of Indianapolis 500 2017. His car hit Jay Howard’s shattered vehicle, throwing Dixon’s car more than 10 feet in the air. He landed on the inside wall upside down, separating the car.

The Neinder driver was seriously injured. Dixon received a walking boot for his foot and ankle after the accident.

No. 17: Tony Stewart ends the sixth in Indy 500 and the third in Coca -Cola 600

Tony Stewart completed 1,090 miles in his double Indy 500-Coke 600 of 1999 and became the first (and still the only one) pilot who later completed 1,100 miles in 2001 when he finished sixth in Indianapolis 500 and the third race in Charlotte.

Stewart, who fought against the dizziness and exhaustion in 1999, Tok Great Pride in the feat of 2001. After leaving his car, he said: “For those people who had doubts that I was putting everyone in danger, you are a lot of idiots because it was the fastest car in the correra at the end.”

No. 16: Willy T. Ribbs becomes the first black pilot in the race

Willy T. Ribbs defeated four blows blowing two weeks of practice and the qualification to make the 1991 500 Indianapolis. With the support of actor Bill Cosby and a team owner determined in Derrick Walker, Ribbs became the first black driver. Six years before, he had arrived in Indianapolis in an agreement with the boxing promoter Don King, but the car never updated.

An consummated sports car corridor that had competed in eight Indycar races in 1990, Ribbs suffered another engine failure just five laps in the race and ended in 32º.
