On Sunday, the second day of classification for race number 109 of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing”, it was discovered that Penske, Josef Newgarden and Will Power’s cars had an illegally modified part.
They were disqualified to make a four laps race, and Indycar a day later hit the team: Newgarden, the two -time winner of the defending race, was retired to 32 in the field and the power moved to lasting the Indy 500 of this weekend.
Chip ejoussi, the CEO of ChipEsei Racing, was one of the many who complained to the inspectors of Indycar and the Penske executives that the cars were illegal on Sunday. The next day, he remained disappointed with the drama that is now eclipsing the world’s largest race, one that has been exhausted for the first time since 2016.
“I think that all teams have a certain responsibility to maintain the integrity of sport, in any series, and no team more than the Penske team,” he said in an episode or “Happy Hour of Kevin Harvick” that will be launched on Thursday.
“They have been so successful over the years, and it is a team that everyone has heard, and they succeed throughout the world in many different series, so they must be heroes with a higher standard to protect the investment pension with specialty with the speed rate and in the Indycar series and its business, for that matter,” he added.
Newgarden is trying to become the first pilot to win the Indy 500 in three consecutive years, but no driver has won after starting in the last row. Meanwhile, Power is in a year of contract and the Penske team has maintained that it would begin discussions in an extension until after 500. He asked Power’s future last week with the team, Cindric told AP: “Well, if he wins 500, that’s Woatd Woatd Woatd.
Now, Newgarden and Power are in deep holes despite having anything to do with the situation.
“They have the responsibility to protect the sport, we all do it,” he said to Harvick. “All who are in it need to protect sport, and it is certainly a problem when the search to win compromises integrity and sportsmanship. That’s what you have.”
