After Derek Carr’s retirement, where do Saints go from here at quarterback?

Derek Carr’s era in New Orleans is over. The 34 -year -old field marshal is removed, citing a shoulder injury that will require surgery and would have forced him to miss the 2025 season.

It was 14-13 in his two-year career with the Saints, limited by injuries and playing through others, ultimately, he could not be the field marshal so that New Orleans returns to the playoffs for the first time since 2020.

Carr’s retirement ends an uncomfortable period of uncertainty, with news of the shoulder injury just before the draft. The difficult salary limit situation of the Saints forced them to rework their contract to create an immediate capitalization space and, as a result, their contract will have $ 50 million in “dead money” or capitalization space dedicated to a complete contract, around 2025 and 2026.

The Saints had anticipated Carr’s absence by using his second round selection in the Draft in the Louisville field marshal, Tyler Shegh, and the 25-year-old is now the favorite to intervene in the role of Carr as Carr’s role as the Lower Firt-Yarar field marshal. New Orleans has recruited the field marshal three years in a row, but should be able to beat Pro Spencer Rattler of the second year, who was 0-6 last season for Carr, and the third year professional Jakeer, 0-1, 0-1, 0-1 Jakeer, 0-1, 0-1 Jakeer, 0-1.

If the Saints want to sign a veteran QB, the best free agents that are still available include Aaron Rodgers, who seems to go to the Steelers, Carson Wentz and Desmond Knight.

New Orleans comes from a 5-12 season that was the worst record of the franchise since 2005, before Brees joined the team. The salary inflexibility of the Saints Limited limited their low season additions, so the challenge will keep up with the Panthers and the Falcons, also with the young Quarterbacks, all chase a team of BUCs that has won the SO Dadain.

Carr’s NFL legacy is a mixed bag. He died for 41,245 yards and 257 TouchDown passes in an 11 -year -old race, mainly with the Raiders, but is also without post -time appointment. His best season, in 2016, saw him lose the playoffs due to an injury, so he played in a single playoff game, losing after the 2021 season. He made four Pro Bowls with the Raiders, but his mandate of Saints will be recorded mainly for the mass contract he signed, he will end up winning $ 100 million for three years, and the lack of constant success to match that agreement.

His retirement makes him a clean break in New Orleans: new coach in Moore, a new quartback probably in Shegh. The rookie, who played three seasons in Oregon and three in Texas Tech before finding success in Louisville last season, now the burden of trying to change the trajectory of the franchise. It was the third chartback recruited, ahead of other higher field marshal perspectives such as Jalen Milroe de Seattle and Shadeur Sanders de Cleveland.

The main receptors Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed will help Shouse, as well as an improved offensive line. New Orleans used his two first round selections in Tacleadas, with Talsese Fuaga last year and Kelvin Banks Jr. this year. Moore is an offensive coach with a long career in Dallas early with the Chargers and Eagles, and follows a non-remarkable record of Dennis Allen, who flees for Sean Payton in 2022.
