The Chicago athlete went to the road for a summer trip to the upper peninsula in Michigan for the RUN channel. This event is hero every July and is only one of the many resistance events that athletes can participate in the UP

Race’s place in Hancock, Michigan, and was just 6 1/2 hours by Chicago car. The impulse itself was picturesque and full of moments of Instagram. After leaving the road on Wisconsin, we woven through innumerable small cities and forests that could have maintained a great foot. There were also tons of lifting changes, so be sure to have rubber or juice boxes ready to appear in the ears.

We arrived on Friday night and went directly to the Keweenaw Waters resort, located along the Keweenaw river route in Houghton, Michigan. This new complex is located on the edge of the coast and houses impressive views, regardless of the time of day.

We entered the cabin and were immediately received by fresh wood and the entire cabin smells and feels. I can say that this was one of the most active night accommodations.

“The exterior is clad with upper peninsula White Cedar, While the Inside is adorned Withite and Red Pine Shiplap, All Created by Hand in Our Own Sawmill. The Cabins Are Percelda ABOVE The Blue Waters of Portage Canal Tawe to Lake Wheppp Family SIZED Dicks and Patios, Complete with Lounge Chairs, and BBQ Grills, Are The Perfect Place for Meetings while in the Rolling Unting Landscape. – Keweweew Waters website

The cabin came with a complete kitchen, two Queen beds, a large seat area with a roku television and a spacious and clean bath. There was also a washing machine and dryer and a sauna! I can’t think of a better place to stay and relax, both before and after the race.

With a complete kitchen, I was able to prepare my own food the night before the race, which is very important for those runners like me with sensitive stomachs. The patio had private access from our cabin, complete with a grill and a seat, where we sat down to close the night. Durio lasts more time in the north of Michigan, so it did not obscure until 10 pm we enjoy looking and listening to the waves while absorbing this incredible getawayThe next morning was the channel race, which included a half marathon, a division of half a walch chair marathon, a 10 -mile race, 10 miles on foot, a 5 -mile race, a 5 -mile sword division, 5 miles on foot and 2 miles of race/walk. This point to point ran so many different distances that runners of all ages and skills could enjoy. The runners were able to park in the center of Hancock and the table buses that led athletes to their various starting lines. The toks of the course toks along the Portage channel, with several lifting changes as the runners worked back.

The race ended in the center of Hancock, where runners can walk to the many parking areas where vehicles were left with their legs earlier in the morning. This is incredible well organized and well attended. I could not compete with the event this year, but I hope to return and celebrate on the fun next year. This is definitely a race that you must keep on your radar by 2025.

On Saturday afternoon, we visited the center of Houghton Michigan with one of our first stops such as the copper racing company. This small local business had all the brand name that any enthusiasm of the physical condition could. He reminded me of many of our local stores in Chicago, with the friendly staff who attended customers and events published through the store. It was nice to have a piece of house so far.

Then we have a cup of coffee in the oldest cafeteria in UP, Cyberia Cafe. This local coffee had everything from smoothies to specialized coffee drinks. There were board games and cozy seats through the store. We end up returning to this cafeteria on Sunday morning before leaving it, it has such an excellent character and fantastic drinks to start the morning.

We also visit some of the local stores, including Chickadish, Michigan Made and Surplus outlet. The lovely area of the center of Houghton is full of small local businesses and the most friendly people. On the back of the corner of the commercial area, they hit you quickly with the beauty of the upper lake. There is a path in front of the sea that you can walk to enjoy beauty in front of the lake that is the upper peninsula. We spend a lot of time wandering around the area and enjoying all the sites.

I was surprised how many hills aligned in the streets of Houghton and Hancock. Grateful, my son is just finishing the education of drivers and is well versed about the techniques of the parking lot down and uphill. It is a bone quite time since I had climbed my wheels, up and far in a uphill park.

We are the center of the city and we go to the Nara Nature Trail promenade. The Nara Nature Trail Boardwalk is a high wooden ride 4,500 feet long that extends along both banks of the Pilgrim River. This seap walk has fishing, banks and access sites for the launch of kayaks and canoes.

“A historical storm fell more than 7 inches of rain in the area in just a few hours early in the morning of June 17, 2018. The floods that followed annihilated the Wetlands Wm on Wetland Paseo through the Nara Park. The city of Houghton worked with Fema to finance the cleaning of the rubble and repairs the promenade. A project was designed to clean and rebuild maritime walks and the new maritime walks were built in the autumn of 2020.

The new maritime walks were updated to current accessibility standards that include registration, wide and railings. The “float” maritime walks in the soils inside the wetland sections. At key points, large screw anchors admit the structure to keep blanket walks in place, the high duration of water events while minimizing the impact on the wetland’s soil structure. Houghton City “website”

This walk is something that even young children can do, but would hesitate to bring a stroller on the promenade, since it is as it sounds with several boards that make up all the way. She is the narrow girl and I think the blow would be difficult with a stroller. It is a thought out, so you can easily cut the leg walker.

We finished the day off with dinner at the ambassador, a local restaurant in Houchton, Michigan. This restaurant had stained glass and used comfortable seats for customers. The food was incredible and had many gluten and healthy options.

I strongly recommend a trip to Keweenaw County and a stay at the Keweenaw Waters Resort. Look at the Chicago athlete to get ads from other resistance events in this area!
