The Guard of the Pacers, Tyrese Haliburton, was so excited about the unlikely extra time of Indiana that he does not realize what he led to the fight after his teammates and the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night.
Then he arrived at the locker room, observed the repetition and made a grimace when he saw his father, John, on the court, confront the two -time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.
“I had no idea what happened until I returned to the locker room and they showed me the video of my pops,” said the two-time All-Star after he made the decisive flag with 1.3 seconds to give Indiana a 119-118 victory and a victory of the 4-1 series.
“We have a little talk about that. I do not agree with what happened there. I think basketball is basketball and we keep it on the court. I think it was excited.”
Antetokounmpo did not please, either, after his team exploded a seven -point advantage in the last 40 seconds of extra time, sending the Bucks to their third straight output of first round. The two -time MVP did not recognize John Haliburton, thinking that he was just another fan who had run to the court.
Antetokounmppo said that he likes Haliburton, calling him a great competitor, but said that John Haliburton showing the image of a son of the tower while shouting “this is what we do (expletive)” was wrong.
“I feel that is very, very disrespectful,” said Antetokounmpo, who ended 30 points, 20 rebounds and 13 assists.
Haliburton seemed really upset by the incident, promising to communicate with Antetokounmpo before the teams play again.
“I will talk to Giannis about this possible,” said Haliburton, who grew up in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. “I don’t think my pops were on the right there. What happened at the end there is unfortunate.
“It is unfortunate what happened there (the fight), but I think it’s just competition,” he added. “As for my pops, I do not agree with what happened there. We will have a conversation.”
Antekounmpo told a story about the 2020-21 championship season of the Bucks, when his mother attended all games from mid-February to the race for the title. The Greek superstar said that her mother was so sure if she could come to the court to hug him at the end of the final game and pointed out that her family members are usually not on the court.
The Pacers and Bucks have 20 times in the last two seasons, with the Pacers winning eight of 11 playoff games and both postseason series in an increasingly heated rivalry.
