What to know about Chevron Championship winner Mao Saigo

The LPGA Tour saw its first important year in the weekend in the Chevron Championship in The Woodlands in Texas and ended with enough explosion. Like the masters two weeks before, he went to a playoff, but he had five players competing for an important title instead of two. Five!

Mao Saigo de Japan was able to survive the battle with Hyo Joo Kim, Ruing Yin, Ariya Juanugern and Lindy function for their first important championship and the first victory on the LPGA tour in general. Since the cut was lost in the event last year and it was a T56 in 2023, this is an incredible change.

Saigo became the first LPGA player to obtain his first victory in an important championship since Allisen Corpuz did it in the 2023 US Women’s Open in Pebble Beach. She is also the first Japanese player to take home a specialty since Ayaka Furue in the Amundi Evian championship last season. In particular, a player from Japan has now won all the main tours.

The LPGA Tour remains in action this week with the black desert championship presented by Greater Zion. It is the inaugural year for this event that should make it quite exciting.
