Newark Airport Suffers Another Radar Outage

A air traffic control installation that guides airplanes at the Newark Liberty International Airport had an interruption of the card radar on Friday morning, the last technological interruption in one of the most busy airports in the country.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the interruption, which affected the communications and radar exhibitions in a philadelphia installation, happened just before 4 am and lasted about 90 seconds.

A similar 90 seconds interruption last week, on a Monday afternoon, traveled to the airport trips, leaving the controllers unable to communicate with the pilots and prevent the planes from crashing each other. Several drivers who worked that afternoon were distressed by that episode and free time, which resulted in several days of low personnel at the facilities, causing generalized delays and flight cancellations.

The problems in Newark and other aviation security conerns have become a great challenge for President Trump. A few days after the office, an American Airlines plane crashed into an army helicopter near Ronald Reagan airport in Washington, killing everyone abroad both planes.

On Thursday, the Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy, announced a plan to modernize and review the country’s air traffic control system. The proposal, which will cost billions of dollars, includes investing in new technologies and facilities. But many details remain an uncle and the plan will require the approval of the Congress.

Friday’s last interruption will probably be an intense pressure on administration officials and legislators to act.

An air traffic controller that directed traffic on Newark on early Friday mentioned the last interruption to the Fedex flight pilot 1989 when it occurred, according to a public record of greedy registration or air traffic control communications with pilots.

“Fedex 1989, I will give you here, our areas become black again,” said the driver. “If you care, contact your airline and try to have some pressure to fix these things.”

“I’m sorry to hear that,” replied the pilot.

The flights to and from Newark were delayed on Friday morning. The FAA also initiated a “soil delay program”, which remained in force at noon. Flights of heroes destined for Newark in their airports of origin in an average of more than four hours due to rain inside and around New York City. Newark airport is approximately 17 miles by car from center of Manhattan.

A spokesman for the New York Port Authority and New Jersey, which operates Newark Liberty, said the interruption did not affect the operations of the pins at the airport.

Newark has had problems for a long time. FAA recently hoped to address a personnel deficit among air traffic drivers last summer when moving some Newark operations from Westbury, NY, in Long Island, to Philadelphia. The controllers in the New York facilities had fought against relocation, but the FAA said it could recruit more controllers when moving the work to a more affordable area.

About 10 percent of the flights to and from Newark were canceled from the beginning of last week until Wednesday, according to FlightAware data, a flight tracking service. The other two airports that served the New York region was much better. Around the same period, only about 2 percent of the flights were canceled at Laguardia airport and 1 percent was canceled at the John F. Kennedy International Airport. Newark also saw many more delays than the other two airports.

The interruptions are particularly frustrating for United Airlines, which tells Newark as one of its eight airport centers and dominates traffic there. United sells more than two out of three flights to and from the airport. A variety of airlines explain the removal flights, according to the Cirio, an aviation data firm.

In an email to employees this week, United Executive Director, Scott Kirby, said that flights to and from the airport are still safe. Newark is a “crown jewel in the region,” he said, but the airport is too rejected, with more flights scheduled on most of the nights than FAA has said it can handle.

“This mathematics doesn’t work,” he said. “Especially when there is climate, personnel problems or technological breakdown: airspace, filming streets and tracks are supported and stagnation occurs.”

To solve the problem, Mr. Kirby said FAA should reverse a 2016 decision that allowed more flights to the airport in an effort to promote competition in Newark.

In highly contained airports around the world, including Kennedy and Laguardia, aviation authorities can choose to closely control opportunities to take off and land, known as “slot”. Newark was controlled with a similar slot, but FAA relaxed those restrictions in 2016.

At that time, United had accused or clinging, but not using some slots to accumulate his domain at the airport. The airline criticized the decision in 2016, saying that it would further tense New York airspace.
